Blast

From the Blast Motion website:

The Coach Certification Program is a 7-video series, followed by a 38-question knowledge test, providing coaches with a more complete understanding of metrics, important hitting concepts, best practices for collecting data, and implementing data into your daily training, games, and player development. Watch the videos and then take (and pass) the quiz to become a Blast Certified Coach.

The Blast sensor attaches to the knob of the baseball bat. It uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to measure precise changes in acceleration and rotational velocity when the player swings the bat. The sensor records nine metrics and calculates three swing quality scores. The metrics include On Plane Efficiency, Attack Angle, Early Connection, Connection at Impact, Rotation, Bat Speed, Rotational Acceleration, Vertical Bat Angle, Time to Contact, and Peak Hand Speed. The three swing quality scores rate relative on-plane efficiency, body and barrel connection, and rotation sequencing.

Using the Blast sensor gives valuable feedback that goes beyond what we can see live or on slow-motion video. It is particularly useful for players who want to refine their mechanics. It also provides very helpful feedback for increasing exit velocity and improving bat path. Consequently, the Blast sensor is a valuable tool for players as they progress beyond the basics of swinging a bat to more advanced training.
