“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there is no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” – Derek Jeter
You can increase your exit velocity and improve your barrel control, but you need to put in the work. Here are links to exit velocity and barrel control programs that you can do on your own. Click the red buttons.
“If you’re not practicing, somebody else is, somewhere, and he’ll be ready to take your job.” – Brooks Robinson
The off-season is the best time for you to work on your exit velocity and barrel control. This is when you can make the biggest gains. If you are already doing it with your batting instructor or at your training facility, then great. If not, these programs are your road map for becoming a better hitter. Improvement will only happen if you take it seriously and schedule time regularly each week to train. Get after it and get better.
“There is no time to fool around when you practice. Every drill must have a purpose. I try to never get away from that. Habits are important.” – Albert Pujols
Warmup Drills for Hitting – Just like you have throwing drills to prepare to throw, you should have hitting drills to warm up and prepare to hit. We have four drills to help your body wake up and get ready to bat. These drills also reinforce good batting mechanics.
If you want to be a better batter, you need to hit the ball harder. That takes efficient mechanics, good bat control, and the ability to move the bat faster. Improving mechanics requires individual attention and a development plan tailored to the needs of each particular player. However, there are drills for barrel control and bat speed that all batters will find valuable. Below are links to three programs we have created for LN players.
Exit Velocity – The faster the ball comes off your bat, the more likely you are to get on base. Getting stronger and swinging the bat faster are both necessary to maximize your exit velocity.
Barrel Control: Launch Angle and Hitting to All Fields – Barrel control refers to hitting the ball where you want by controlling the swing path of the bat. It includes the launch angle of the baseball and hitting to different parts of the field.
